INTERIOR DESIGN COALITION OF CALIFORNIA - WHO WE ARE

The Interior Design Coalition of California advocates for the legal recognition of interior designers as design professionals in the State of California. The Coalition membership is composed of volunteers from ASID, IIDA, NKBA and non-affiliated interior designers. Legal recognition as design professionals expands the opportunities available to qualified interior designers while affording consumers increased choice and protection for projects in the built environment.

Consistent application of existing law will ensure that California interior designers qualified by education, experience and examination can practice to their fullest capabilities. It will benefit California consumers by increasing competition and ensuring access for interior designers to work independently, as they are qualified to do, in non-structural, non-seismic code-based built environments. To meet these objectives, IDCC is actively:

Seeking the uniform acceptance of construction documents that are stamped and sealed by a certified interior designer for the purpose of obtaining permits for non-structural, non-seismic work.
Encouraging acceptance of the nationally accepted NCIDQ exam as the exam needed to practice interior design in commercial spaces.

Building relationships and providing education about the interior design profession to members of CALBO, AIACC, California State Legislators, Legislative Consultants, local elected officials, University / College /  Community College professors and officials, and others who have an impact on our success in obtaining legal recognition as design professionals.
